https://travel.rakuten.com/campaign/hokkaido/201412/
Dear students,
There are two things we will do this week.

First, please watch and write your reflection of last week meeting and the video I attach on this post. Last week I was talking about some friends who run an adventure tour (as well as own a blog on it). He is very helpful when I asked him to record a video on blog writing for you all.
Here is the link: Blog Writing 2020 by Rob Thomson

Second, for this week, I would like you read the reading material on why blog and what motivate people/corporate to blog. Then, we will discuss on the issues and find some ideas on what to write on your blog posts.

Kind regards,
Anik

Note:
You active participation in writing on this class blog will be recorded and be part of your final score in the end of the semester.

  1. On last meeting, our class had the discussion on the tips for a good blog and the habits of a good blogger. As the result of discussion, my group agreed that some of the tips that were shared could be just emerged into one point; therefore, the content of the post will look brief and comprehensive. In addition for those two topics, Rob Thomson, whose video's link you have attached in the post, shared about the focuses or key concepts that he applied for his website to the state that it's getting popular now. There are three key concepts, the first one is to create or provide informations that the target audience is looking for as it will attract people who have the same interest; the second one is to write about stuff that the writer is passionate about so that they can share what their passions are and to make things easier (for example, Rob Thomson loves skiing, outdoor activities, so he wrote about those things); and lastly, do not start blogging just to make money as it is a wrong way to start. Without the thought of making money and just write the things writer is passionate about, it will keep motivate them to write contents and even if they get any affiliate links that will lead to receiving revenues, it can be just considered as bonus.

  2. At the previous meeting, we had a group discussion relating to the features of a good blog and the characteristics of a good blogger. In my group's discussion we agreed that the 26 tips of a good blog can be emerged into some simple tips (around 5) that is easier to be understood because we think that 26 tips are too overwhelming while actually one tips is similar to another ._. In defining how to be a good blogger, we concluded that to be persistent, analytical, and visionary are the important keys to be developed and maintained for a blogger.

From that discussion, it turns out that our main point is part of the three key concepts mentioned by Rob Thomson, whose video you have shared, about creating a good blog. First, provide information that our target audience is looking for. Second, write stuff that we are passionate about it. Third, do not think of earning money as the main reason for making a blog because if you have a good blog this thing will come along the way by itself.

  3. Personally, last week materials were very knowledgeable. It is because I'm still as beginner in blogging so the 26 tips and 8 habits really enlighten me. If I can narrow down those tips and habits, the most important things for me to start and keep blogging are: being consistent, productive, make a blogging calendar, thinking about the eye-cathing title that can attract my audiences, provide the valuable informations and make my blogspot layout more interesting to support the beauty side of my blogspot.

For the Blog Writing 2020's video, i found some things interesting and knowledgeable too. Robert Thomson mentioned that there are three main points to keep you blogging are: provide the information, write something that we're passionate about and don't just write the blog to earn money. Personally, the main point that should be highlighted is the last point. I assume that nowadays people wanna do something is just because they want to get something 'valuable' for them, which is money. In blogging, that way can't be our habit because we should write something valuable and we're passionate in it. If we just do blogging to earn money, it will makes us harder in getting the idea to write the new chapter of our story. It will be better if we write something that provide an important information and we feel enjoy when write that story. Robert also mention if earning money from blogging is just a bonus. In addition, Robert also mention that to start blogging, we shouldn't get confuse about something that we're gonna write, but, just write something informative so that we can know how to provide an valueable information in our story and we will become motivated to continue writing a blog.

  4. Last week I got more information on how to make a good blog. It was also interesting when we had to discuss to decide which points are important the most, and we had little bit different opinion that time. However, personally, I think the most important points are 1,2 and 7 in https://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/26-tips-for-writing-great-blog-posts/. That is (1) it must be anatomically correct, (2) we must understand the platform itself, and (3) make a consideration so that our blog can easily appear in the search engine.

And for the Mr. Rob Thomson's video about blog writing, he gave us 3 "ultimate" tips on making a blog, and they all make sense, I can directly relate/understand the reason why those three tips are important. So the first one is to provide information, to give the audience what they need. This is important because the audience is our focus/target. We make a blog of course to give the readers information. Secondly we need passion. If we have a passion in our writing, or we write about something that we like, we will enjoy the activity. We will not count it as an exhausting work, but feel a lot of fun instead. Thirdly, don't write just to make many at the first place. If your goal is to make money, you can be distracted from the first point, you can lose your focus on providing informative reading platform for the people because your focus is redirected into "money". It is also important for our skill development if we write just because we want to be a good writer/blogger instead of focusing on money.

  5. From the previous meeting, me, personally got a lot of new things about blogging not only the surface but also the details about how we chose the topic, manage the content, and how we manage the blog as a whole. Before I read the material, I did not expect that there would be a lot of things to be considered when we have a blog, and I think the most useful among all is the way we choose the topic/content for our blog. Why I choose that as the most useful is because I actually struggle in deciding what should I write on my blog, but that does not mean I am not interested in anything, it is just hard to pick one.
Also, from Rob's video, I agree with him that you cannot make a blog only for money, but you have to be passionate about what you write and about the blog itself, therefore the outcome for you doing the blog is useful. In my opinion, Rob's tips can be the most basic tips that someone should know first or as a preparation before he/she begins to read the 26+8 tips from the materials on the previous meeting since there were a lot and quite complocated.

  6. Last week we've learned and disscussed about some tips and tricks in writing a good blog. I think those tips are very useful for me because when I was assigned to write a blog post for my assignment in Junior High School, I just write it and post it on my blog without thinking about another things or ways how to create an interesting blog post. What I shared was just a post which is full of text that makes it sounds boring when people read it. So, from the last meeting I found some important tips of writing a blog that we should have, such as being analytical, being focused and consistent, and having a future plan for the blog.
From the video, there are 3 important key concepts of writing a good blog that are very useful too for the beginner like me. Rob Thompson mentioned about writing something that the target audiences are looking for or provide them with a good information such as tips and tricks for traveling. He also said that we must write stuff that we are passionate about and don't write for the purpose of making money. If you get money from it, just considered it as the bonus. For me, his tips in writing a good blog are really helpful. When you're really interested in writing a blog, just do your best so that you can provide useful information.

Last week, I learned about how-to-blog from the two mentioned websites from the class. The points of the two blogs mostly share the same things on how to create a good blog. From the very start, it is important to be a consistent and persistent person, to be motivated by oneself because most of the work will be done by only one person. Aside from that, blog writers need to effectively write the information that they want to share. Be analytical, concise, and focused are the keys to be an effective blog writer. Next, the design of the blog and what is inside are the keys to catch the target audiences' attention. Last is do not forget to publish and promote the blog.
About the video shared by Mr. Thomson, he states three main points on how to start blogging. The first is to provide information that the target audiences are searching for. The second is to write about stuff that you are passionate about. The last is do not start blogging for the sake of money. It is also significant to consider digital marketing, content producing, and targeted readers. For example, on his Hokkaido Wilds, he wants to share and provide information about Hokkaido. He wants the target readers to enjoy the wilds of Hokkaido, to get to the places they want to go, to wear the clothing that is needed, and to measure the time of the journey.

  8. We discussed blogging habits like being persistent, analytical, able to manage themselves, and things what make a good blog such as SEO, editorial calendar, and blog design.

In the video, Rob Thomson mentions 3 keys of writing blog which are creating information that suits our niche, writing about stuff we're passionate about, and not thinking about monetizing our blog.

Those are interesting tips. In the previous meetings, in my opinion, the authors tend to emphasize readers-focused post or practical things like SEO or meta-description. While in the video, he stresses the willing to share about things we like. He writes about the activities in Hokkaido since he likes doing it. It is a powerful motivation to create a blog by starting from something we love.

  9. Honestly, last week's meeting was useful for content writer 'starter pack'. From the discussion, we discover many things about blogging including posting prime time, categories, target audience, consistency, etc. For beginner blogger, the tips and habits that were discussed in the last meeting are significant because they often neglect it and write whatever they want. And sometimes they don't create a valuable content and don't provide useful information to the target reader.

However, from the last meeting discussion I was just realized that I have implemented most of the tips and habits when I was working as a content creator in Surabaya. Consistency in routine posting and following the market's demand is the key of a high engagement content. However, the most important elements is to know your target reader or audience like Mr. Thomson said in the video. As the result, the content reach the insight target with minimum 3K++ likes and 20+ comments.

Last week, we discuss about 8 habits of highly effective bloggers and 26 tips of writing great blog post. As a group we then choose 3 & 5 that we think were the most important. From last meeting discussion, me personally conclude that the most important part of making good blog is to be focused and productive. Successful blogs are mostly focus on specific topic and offer many articles for the readers, so being productive in writing is important. In addition to that I also add that being engaged with the readers is important whether through comment section or social media.

Regarding the video for Mr. Thompson, I really grateful because he willing to share some tips for us. From the tips that he shared I conclude that a successful blog is the combination of the writer's passion and readers's need. Therefore its important that the topic is part of the writer's passion and also the audience's desire.

In addition to that, Mr. Thompson advice beginner blogger to not be motivated by money, because he believes that it was a wrong start for beginner.

  12. Last meeting we had a group discussion and read two articles on how to have a good blog. The first article is about 26 tips for writing a good blog, and the second is 8 habits of highly effective blogger. We can know from the 26 tips, it is the systematical of the blog itself, like the design of the blog and what kind of 'writing' should be included. While 8 habits is about the writer attitude to be a successful blogger, in which they have to be disciplined, persistent, analytical, and consistent. It was nice to divide the reading points and let the team members explain the rest to us.

From the video, Mr. Thomson stresses on 3 tips that he and his team did for their blog. The tips are to search the target audience on what information they want to find; provide those information and make sure the writer is passionate about it; and the last is never start blogging just to make money. Rob Thomson has a fixed audience of travelers who wants to do outdoor activities in Hokkaido and he himself is passionate doing those kinds of activities. Later on, when the blog has made an advancement and the writer wants to start earning money, that would be cherry on the top.

  13. Last week we discussed about so much (26) tips to write a good blog and some habits that blogger should have in order to be an effective blogger. In a group of 5-6 person, we tried to find the most effective tips and habits from the sources provided. Yep, every single person have different opinions when the lecture asked us to short out the tips and habits to only 5 tips and 3 habits that we think is the most important. Relax, chaos was not happening thou when the discussion started. Even though each group had different opinions, we all could accept different opinions from different groups. What I think when having this kind of discussion is those tips and habits mean differently for each person. For example, one of the habit from the sources provided said that we have to be prolific. Say that some of diligent and ambitious students already think that he/she have this kind habit in writing blog, then he/she will not think this habits is the most important right?

In the video made by Mr. Thomson, he mentioned 3 tips for writing blog. 1) made what the audience seek as your topic. The more you provide right and useful information that the consumer looking for, the more popular your blog will become right? 2) but remember, write what you are passion about. Personally, I think this is the most important tips. It is not going to work if I write something that I do not like or hate about. 3) money is not the starter to make blog. Money is a bonus, not a starting line!

Thank you so much Mr. Thomson for the video. Hearing some tips about writing blog from a famous blogger himself feels different and very encouraging.

  14. On the previous meeting, the class were discussing about some tips for blogging. We also share to each others' group about what we were think to be the most important aspects for blogging. Each of the group had different ideas about it (especially my group) while the others were mostly agreeing on the same points. My group were thinking of the point "we need a zone for writing" is an important point while the others were not. It went the same to the 3 most important habits that a blogger needs to have, we also have a point that pretty much made our group different from others.

For the video that Mr. Thomson had share to us I got 3 main points about blogging tips that he tries to share to us.

    1. He encourages us to create a blog with information that the target audience is searching for. We need to follow the market and see to whom we are addressing our blog. Think about what the target personal is looking for then provide that information.
    2. He says that we need to write about stuff that we are passionate about. Writing about something that we are interested in makes us becoming more motivated to explore more and develop our blog.
    3. He is not recommending us to blog with the motivation to earn money. It is not wrong, but that is a wrong way to start.
He also gives a additional tips that we have to know that it is more important to think about the information that we are about to give rather than thinking about the structure or how it would look like.

  16. In the previous meeting, we had a group discussion about the features of a good blog as well as the characteristics that a good blogger should possess. My group agreed that although all the tips are useful, there are some aspects that are much more important to be considered. Furthermore, some tips actually can be emerged under the same categories. In defining how to be a successful blogger, we concluded that to be persistent, analytical, and visionary are the key aspects.

After watching Rob Thomson's video about creating a good blog, it turned out that our main point is part of the three key concepts mentioned in the video. Firstly, we have to provide information that our target audience is looking for. Second, we should write something that we are actually passionate about. Lastly, we should have the right mindset. Do not make earning money as the main achievement of blogging. It should come second after expressing your thoughts and developing yourself to be a better blogger because when you have a good blog, money will come along the way by itself.
