FINANCIAL GAIN: TAKE YOUR BLOG TO THE NEXT LEVEL


I interviewed Dwina Sasakia; a student from Bahasa Indonesia Department. She mostly uses blog as her platform for writing short stories, opening up her thoughts, or simply writing random stuff. However, there is something more than that; blogging can be used to get money. Yes, money from blogging. When I asked her about this, she mentioned that she had already known it that any writing products, including writing in blog, can give us financial gain because she has been in the field of writing for more than 5 years; she has made earnings from the books she wrote.

However, she mentioned that there is a distinctive point that must be fulfilled to get earnings from blogging which is different from writing in printed books; your blog must be appealing enough besides having a good content. In other words, blogging is another skill to master to get financial benefit from blogging platform.

I asked her the criteria of a good blog. Interestingly, she thinks that there are no specific criteria of a good blog because blog is relative; the content depends on the writers themselves. As long as the blog is not infuriating and does not contain any hoax, she considers it as good blog. Blogs are considered to be good as long as they are informative, entertaining, or inspiring. She also points out that people “judge” blogs differently; for example, if you like anime, then obviously you will like blogs about anime, while those who do not like anime may do not like the blogs as well. Therefore, a blog writer must be reader-oriented to provide what they like to read as the goal of blog writing.
