Why Do It Today If You Can Do It Tomorrow?

Written by Adelia Marsa Calista

This morning after class, my friends and I hung out in the canteen. When I saw Galih Janggan, the adherent of 'Skuy Living' life motto, I decided to make his morning a little more useful by giving him a few questions about blogs.

I started with an easy boring question, "Do you have a blog?"

He shook his head and replied, "Not yet."

It was something that I already predicted because the type of guy like him usually prefers to spend time in warung rather than sitting in front of a laptop and venting about his days.

"But can you imagine yourself writing a blog?"

He lit his cigarette before answering my question. "I guess. I mean, I have to make one though, because we have Blog Writing."

Fair Enough, I thought. This subject is also the reason I started blogging again. Even while writing this post, I remembered my 12-year-old self, writing on my blog about how much I fell in love with Justin Bieber and Edward Cullen. Super cringe.

"So, you will only create a blog if it was told by your Blog Writing lecturer?"

He justified my statement with a brief head nod. "Why do it today if you can do it tomorrow?"

I gave him a thumb.

"So, what kind of topic you want to write if you have a blog?"

He paused for a while; smoking and sipping his coffee.

"Ever thought of writing about your daily life? Today I woke up at 8 when my class was at 7, today I managed to finish 2 packs of cigarettes and my lungs felt like a chimney..." I gave him some ideas.

He laughed but shook his head again. "Ew, no." He stopped. "Maybe..."

I waited him to finish his sentence.

"I have this idea... to write about people that I know, but based on my point of view about them."

Hmmm, interesting. Galih does sometimes tell stories about his friends who, in my opinion, have a strange and unique story, one of which he once discussed his father's friend who was coveted by Petrus during the Soeharto era. He also briefly told a romantic story about the meeting of his parents. It seems like it would be interesting to read what kind of people he would write.

He later sent me a picture of him sleeping and told me I could use it for my blog. So, tada, I put up the beautiful, masterpiece art of Galih in high school basically procrastinating everything for sleeping.

  1. Galih's perspective has always been interesting for me and that picture is the highlight. I enjoy your writing style as you treat the readers like your friend so it feels like I was there when you interviewed Galih. Good one! I barely found grammatical mistake or mispelled.
